Love your enemies and do good to those who hate you.
Of all the commandments written in the bible, this is probably the most difficult and hardest to follow. In fact, before you've finished reading that one line, you have probably listed down in your minds a dozen reason why YOU CAN'T DO IT, or WON'T. But the most common I've heard is that WE'RE ONLY HUMANS.
Well that could either be the most logical excuse ever or the LAMEST - and technically people who use that are not wrong (yes, because we're all humans even if others act a little differently) but I hear people using that same excuse all their lives.
That phrase by the way was lifted from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 6:27-38) and if you read through the whole text, it also offered a very LOGICAL explanation.
Of course, we shouldn't invalidate feelings - acknowledgment is usually the first step but it doesn't end there also. What you do after is far more important.
Take for example the story of JOSEPH THE DREAMER which can be found in Genesis 37-50 - his brothers have done him wrong, beaten him, sold him out and left for dead. If we were in the same situation (and since we're just humans) we would have probably gone FPJ ballistic and make retribution as our primary goal in life just like in the movies. But also just like in the movies, it never really end well for people who seek revenge. All we get was the adrenaline while hatching our evil plan but after that, a real downer.
Well JOSEPH took a very different path (also as a HUMAN), after teaching them a mild (non-lethal) lesson, HE QUICKLY FORGAVE ALL HIS BROTHERS! And mind you, JOSEPH was the wealthy and successful one, his brothers were all begging for scraps.
The family was whole again and everything turned out well in the end.
Now, imagine if all world leaders do the same and everyone was just kind to each other. IMPOSSIBLE? Well it isn't but like I said, it's probably the most difficult and hardest thing ever.
Yes, loving your enemies is the hardest but it is also the BETTER (THE BEST) ALTERNATIVE!
